Art Courses for Young People

A Level Portfolio - Bawdsey Art Weekends - and weekdays too!

Schools in East Anglia have been sending groups of A Level students to Bawdsey for many years to develop coursework portfolios.  The inspiring setting, the landscape  and the 'away-from-it-all' ambience of the place can work wonders.  Students come with their own teachers to complete work already planned.

When not out-of-doors, studio space is available in the Art Studio in the grounds, in the dedicated art room in the Clocktower Centre or in the Boat House.  Common rooms in student residences are good places for preliminary work or quiet reflection.

Our own Artist in Residence will help you to plan your weekend and can contribute to teaching at an additional cost.
Prices 2010 to follow

Accommodation is in shared student bedrooms usually in the Beach Houses. See the Accommodation section of this site for more information.

Experimental Sculpture for Groups

The mystery of sculpture is being stripped away with courses for adults and young students, encouraging them to experiment with common materials to produce ideas in 3 dimensions.  You can model in newspaper and plaster to create large shell-like forms based on studies made on the beach, or model reliefs in clay to be cast in plaster or cement, construct large and impossible structures in wire and paper pulp, or work with a whole range of materials found on the Bawdsey Estate.

Course Tutor: David Trenow - Artist and sculptor and formerly Head of Art at Colchester Royal Grammar School and Moderator for Midland and OCR Examination Boards.

Course dates: Any time by arrangement.

Prices 2010 to follow

Accommodation: Full board accommodation in a student residence, usually the Beach Houses for this course.  See the Accommodation section of this site for more information.
